SummerDance
SummerDance is a unique summer program for aspiring dancers ages 3 and up begins . Our program for ages 3 – 7 was developed by our Lower School Director, Patrice Logan. These classes will be available in school only beginning in June and August 2021.
For older dancers we’ve added more Summer Intensive weeks! Under the supervision of CDS’s Artistic Director Moira Murphy Wright and our Directors of Summer Intensive Dona Wiley Kim and Chihwan Kim, dancers learn from highly skilled teachers who are dedicated to the learning process and growth of each individual student. These classes will be available in school and online beginning in July 2021.

Dance/Art/Music Program (Ages 3 – 7)
Dance& Art Program
(Ages 3 – 7)
Designed to foster imagination and inspire a love of the arts, the curriculum includes dance, art, and music. This delightful program is led by gifted instructors who specialize in teaching young children. Fun creative activities with themes are featured such as Flowers & Fairies, Sea & Sand, and much more. All classes in the Dance & Art Program are in school. Please read our safety guidelines for in school classes.
For Ages 3 & 4, Four one-week sessions Each week includes fun, themed creative activities focusing on the dance, art and music appropriate for this age group. Students may enroll for one week or two weeks. (Only 8 spots available.) |

For Ages 5 – 7, Two one-week sessions Each week offers dance, fun and creativity especially chosen for 5 -7 year olds. There is more dance instruction and movement exploration. Each session may culminate with a special in-studio performance highlighting the children’s accomplishments. Students may enroll for one week or two weeks. (Only 10 spots available.) |

Intermediate & Advanced Intensives (Ages 8 – 17)
Intermediate Summer Intensive
(Ages 8–12)
Intermediate Summer Intensive inspires dancers to attain technical and artistic growth in a warm and supportive environment. Daily ballet class, pointe/pre-pointe, jazz, theatre dance, contemporary, conditioning and stretch classes, character and workshops are featured. Students will benefit from many of the same guest instructors from the Advanced Intensive, but instruction will be presented in a level appropriate for their age. This program is also available online “live” at same time. This intensive may culminate in a Studio Video Showcase at the end of the two-week session.

Advanced Summer Intensive
(Ages 13+, 2+ years of Pointe Work required)
This program is designed for the serious dancer looking to improve their ballet technique. Students will have access to guest instructors, solo variations / classical repertoire, and daily pointe classes. Additional classes include jazz, theatre dance, contemporary, character, conditioning classes, workshops, and more. This program is also available online “live” at same time. This intensive may culminate in a Studio Video Showcase at the end of the two-week session.

Two-Week Choreography Workshop (Ballet 5 – 10)
2+ years of Pointe Work required
This two-week workshop features a daily ballet technique class followed by learning new choreography for the Spring 2021 season. It is a ballet class followed by rehearsals which meet everyday Mon. – Sat. This workshop is required for students entering Ballet 5 – Ballet 10 in the fall.

Chihwan Kim (Int. & Adv. Ballet, & Adv. Variations)
- American Ballet Theatre Certified Teacher, who has successfully completed levels Pre-Primary through Level 3 of the ABT® National Training Curriculum
- Graduated with a Master in Fine Arts from Kookmin University (South Korea)
- Former Principal Dancer Gwangju City Ballet (South Korea)
- Repertoire includes principal roles in Giselle, Don Quixote, Sleeping Beauty, Swan Lake, Manon, and La Bayadere
- Past company credits also include Korean National Ballet (South Korea), Staten Island Ballet (NY) and Roxey Ballet (NJ) and CelloPointe (NYC)
Dona Wiley Kim (Int. & Adv. Ballet, Adv. Pointe, & Conditioning & Stretch)
- American Ballet Theatre Certified Teacher, who has successfully completed levels Pre-Primary through Level 3 of the ABT® National Training Curriculum
- Founder and Rehearsal Director of CelloPointe, a NYC based dance company
- Former professional ballet dancer with Connecticut Ballet (CT), Staten Island Ballet (NY), and Neglia Ballet (NY)
- Originated numerous principal roles as a professional contemporary ballet dancer with Lydia Johnson Dance, Felice Lesser
- Dance Theatre, Neville Dance Theatre, Taormina Teatro Group, and Ballet Inc.
- Additional repertoire includes Serenade (Balanchine), Giselle, Swan Lake, and Sleeping Beauty
Madeleine Purcell (Int. & Adv. Ballet, Adv. Pointe & Character)
- Professional Ballet Dancer currently working with Oklahoma City Ballet
- American Ballet Theatre Certified Teacher, who has successfully completed levels Pre-Primary through Level 5 of the ABT® National Training Curriculum
- Connecticut Dance School alumni who went on to study at American Ballet Theatre’s JKO School (NYC)
- Past company credits include Sarasota Ballet (FL) and Tivoli Ballet Theatre (Denmark)
- Repertoire includes work by Frederick Ashton, George Balanchine, Antony Tudor, and a world premiere role in Yuri Possokhov’s The Snow Queen (Snedronningen)
Kelly Gleason (Musical Theatre)
- Most recently has been seen in National Tours of famed Broadway Musicals, Chicago and 42nd Street
- Studied under Twyla Tharp and performed Tharp’s works The Fugue, and Burundi Drums
- Past company credits include the New Bedford Festival Theatre, Ocean Professional Theatre Company, and the Carnegie Hall Exchange
- Graduated Summa Cum Laude from Pace University with B.S. in commercial dance and psychology
Isabella Segall (Jazz & Contemporary)
- Lead Choreographer at Wilton Children’s Theater
- Choreographer and Instructor at Conservatory of Dance, Wilton
- Instructor at Dance Factor of Ridgefield
- Pursuing a BFA in dance and a minor in musical theatre
Registration & Tuition Policy
- Tuition must be paid in full before the first class.
- A late fee will be charged for delinquent payment.
- Scholarship aid is available.
